Char Dham Yatra Opening Dates for 2026

Reckoned as one of the most sacred pilgrimages in Hinduism, the Char Dham Yatra holds immense spiritual significance for devotees. The holy circuit comprises Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath. The pilgrimage begins during April/May and remains open only for six months each year. The exact opening dates are officially announced before the auspicious festival of Akshaya Tritiya by the Kedar-Badri Mandir Samiti.

Akshaya Tritiya, also known as Akha Teej, is considered highly sacred and symbolizes prosperity, good fortune, and new beginnings — making it the traditional start of the Char Dham Yatra season.

In 2026, the gates of Yamunotri and Gangotri temples will open on Akshaya Tritiya. Shortly after, Kedarnath and Badrinath Dhams will reopen for devotees. The journey traditionally proceeds in a clockwise direction, beginning at Yamunotri and concluding at Badrinath.
